With the Chennai Collector submitting that she had granted permission to five ruling party MLAs to erect 350 digital banners for the AIADMK’s recent general council meet in the city, the Madras High Court on Tuesday directed her to file reports with more details.
Ahead of the party’s general council meeting on December 31, in separate public interest litigation petitions, the Satta Panchayat Iyakkam, a voluntary outfit, and ‘Traffic’ Ramaswamy, an activist, had questioned the venue of the event and the installation of numerous digital banners on the roads.
The First Bench of Chief Justice S.K. Kaul and Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana had while dismissing the PILs called for details on whether due permission was obtained for installing the banners and if so when.
Filing a memo in this connection on Tuesday, the Chennai Collector submitted that she had granted permission to install 350 digital banners on December 28 and 30, 2015. The judges then wanted to know as to in how many cases permissions has been granted for installing such flex boards during 2015 and the time taken for the same in cases of others. The bench directed the authorities to file the affidavit within three weeks and posted the matter to February 12. The affidavit must also list details of applications that were disposed of on the same day.
